Up to 50,000 meals to be served daily in Jamshedpur, under Tata Steel Foundation’s initiative – Week 1:

Jamshedpur is a major industrial town mostly for Tata Companies and its ancillaries. With the lockdown, many people in the unorganized sector, as well as those who are daily wage earners, transgenders, migrant labourers, homeless and the needy are affected.

N. Manoj Kumar, an active volunteer of Annapoorna who works for Tata Steel, is recognised by Tata Group for clocking the highest number of hours in volunteering outside work hours. Most of his volunteer work is with Annapoorna breakfast programme, medical camps and Proengage teaching volunteerism. With COVID-19 lockdown, Tata Steel Foundation has drawn big plans to help the poor in and around Jamshedpur. Accordingly, Manoj Kumar has been assigned as Project Coordinator to draw plans for distribution of cooked food to 50,000 people in many bastis (communities) in and around Jamshedpur City, under the #ThoughtForFood. What started on March 26, 2020 with 2,000 people being given food a day; as of March 31, 2020 more than 13,700 people are being fed. Manoj Kumar has already finalised plans to scale it up to 50,000 in the next one week. Manoj is closely working with City Administration, Tata Steel Foundation, Midday meal Kitchen, Basti elders, as well as other NGOs for arranging material, cooking, transporting and distribution. Annapoorna is happy to engage its volunteers in this noble initiative being worked out in Jamshedpur!
